This lesson teaches students about severe weather and how they can prepare for it. While they learn about the key characteristics and warning signs of severe weather, they also learn about how to stay safe during them. I would let each student (or small group) choose a specific severe weather event and research it as well as try to design and build a shelter that would protect their people from the storm.
